I was told by this company that I worked at close to a year that since they are slow they will not need me. They didn't tell me for sure if or when I would be called back to work there. The last day I worked was Wednesday the 5th of February. On Friday the 13th of February I was called to see if I am available to work next week. This company only gives me an average of 30 working hours a week. The unemployment rate I get is just as good as what I make working there. If it was up to me I would say that I am not available for work and just collect the unemployment. The company is a 40 minute drive each way and I am tired of the job anyway. If I was to say that I am not available for work I bet I wouldn't get the unemployment since the company asked me to work. If you were in my situation would you have accepted the opportunity to work there or hope that you can still get unemployment?

If you turn the company down, you wil lose your unemployment benefits. You can only collect unemployment if you are able, willing, and available to work.
If you tell the company that you are not available, they will inform unemployment, and your benefits will automatically end.
Everyone collecting unemployment benefits raised the company's unemployment premium. So it is in their best interest to have as few people as possible on unemployment. So believe me, they will report you. |

Seems to me that there is only one answer - tell them you would be glad to come back today.
The way things are, consider your self lucky. You can always look for a job when you are working. There aren't too many good jobs out there right now. Save your unemployment for some time you need it.

You answered your own question. If you say No, say bye bye to your unemployment!!
When you file they ask if you will be called back or not. Reason for lay off. One week laid off is not an adequate amount of time to get your first check. They have all that information about the company you work for via their Employer's identification number, whether the business is closed, not hiring back at the moment etc. If you answer NO to the following question, "were you able, available, and looking for work as directed by the dept.", you are not eligible to receive benefits. Sorry, but to them, they don't care 30 hours isn't enough for your 40 min drive. That is just how it is. People are LUCKY to have a job right now and that would be considered fraud I suppose, that you were sick of the job anyway and would rather draw unemployment...
