Starting a new job as a supervisor?

Help! I am starting at a new company as a supervisor. The job I currently have is a bus driver. New job supervisor over 400 bus driver @ another company. So every bus company works with the other, so there will be co-workers that worked with me at the other company. And no I haven't supervised such a large amount of people. Does anyone have some first day on the job as a supervisor ideas?

Wow! Good job.

That's a big jump I have been in management for 12yrs consider myself alright at it and I would be nervous.

Take this to heart throughout your career.

1. Any success you have is because of your people. If you don't truly care about them you will struggle to meet you goals.

2. Learn everything about your employees (400 tuff). Learn to pick on their feelings. Don't fake concern but if somebody is going through a divorce and their late to work you will be more effective if at least understand.

3. Never raise you voice. If you do need you already lost.

4. Enforce the rules fairly and consistently.

5. Negative feedback nobody else needs to hear. It's done in private.

6. Give praise and thanks anywhere and a lot of it.

WORK HARDER THAN YOUR EMPLOYEES
WORK HARDER THAN YOUR EMPLOYEES
WORK HARDER THAN YOUR EMPLOYEES
WORK HARDER THAN YOUR EMPLOYEES

Below are couple things I do:
I rarely tell people what to do. I ask.
I call poeple Sir and Maam most of the time.

I believe people like this level of respect.

Be on time, dress neatly, treat your workers with respect and demand the same of them.

Give them the smack down. Be tough, confident, and let them know you're the boss. Then relax and be their friend.

You'll get used to your job, it'll be hectic for the first few days.

Sure, first of all do not make any changes your first couple of days or weeks. Get a feel for you job and how your new employees act towards you.

That's what I have done when I took over as a manager, I kept everything the same for like the first month or so, got a feel for my new position and how the employees worked and who did what.

You'll learn very fast that your employees will come up to you and point out the "others" that aren't doing there work, keep an open mind and listen, but you will have to be the judge in the end.

Lastly.....do not be to NICE, trust me, if you are they will walk all over you, be aggressive, but level headed about it.
Hope this helps you and good luck in your new position!!

Just be yourself and do get nervous. The first day for anybody at the new job is nerve racking.

Hey congrats!! On your very first day, dress up well because first imp ration is a last imp ration. Mind it well that you got promotion just because of your hard and good work, so just carry on the same attitude towards your work. Don;t get nervous, keep smiling face, be co-operative, helpful, and talk in a good manner with others.
