Taking Holidays From Work?

Hi, I Booked A Holiday From Work A Week Ago, For Today (One Day Holiday) And They Accepted. They Then Turned Round On Saturday And Said There Is An Overtime Ban And If I Want My Holiday Then I Have To Find Someone To Work It For Me, And Pay Them Cash In Hand (As In The Contract I Would Be Paid For The Day) But I Get Paid £4 An Hour Less Than The Rest Of The Staff So I Would Lose Money.

Can They Turn Around After Accepting My Holiday And Say I Can No Longer Have It?

They Also Said Id Be Breaking My Contract If I Do Not Come In, Is This True? And What Can They Do?

If you have holiday credits, you should be able to take days off whenever you wish if you've put in for the holiday.

but i have suggestion for you if it possible cancel the holliday because it's influence on your job .im sure .

Read your contract, or company handbook. You are entitled to holidays and yes Leanne is right about them being able to refuse them but they cannot keep doing this. It is not your problem that the company has an overtime ban and it is not down to you to find cover.
Apply for another date, if its refused on the same grounds i would seriously look at putting in a grievance as your employer is now being unreasonable.
Join the union the post office has one of the best in the country, and you can join without anyone knowing, its at times like this when you could be getting them to assist you.

An employer can withdraw annual leave by giving twice the notice of the length of leave even if they have previously accepted the request. so for example if you book 1 days holiday they have to give you 2 days notice of the refusal, for 2 days holiday it would be 4 days notice and so on. They would only be liable to cover any of your losses for the day if you could prove that they were aware of what your plans were and that you would lose money if you had to cancel.

They cannot force you to pay anybody else to cover your leave but they can refuse to accept someone else working your shift if it means that it will cost the company more. If you can find someone who is willing to work your shift at your rate of pay then they would be unreasonable in refusing to accept that change.

If you do not go into work then you are in breach of contract and they could take disciplinary action against you as this is an unauthorised absence.

However, if you phone in sick for the day there is nothing they can do unless they can prove you were not sick - something employers find impossible to do as you do not require a GP note until after 7 days of absence.

the post office cannot do that. have you had anything signed to say they accepted your AL. it is not your job to find cover for your holiday

if they are having a OT ban this does not affect the OT used to cover AL.

Employees like this really get me - i bet your real young? they are trying to walk all over you
