The police rightly ask HOW DO I KNOW!?

For 4 years I've had a person coming on my property when I'm gone on an errand or during the night. There's been evidence by crushed grass and mulch etc that someone stands outside the window at night. They've left food on my window sill, throw pebbles(or whatever)at the windows or siding at night.Theres been 4 yrs of too many things to write about. I installed a house alarm for the inside that I pay for monthly. Yesterday I bought a large, tall, tropical plant to put outside my kitchen window. Today I see one of the branches with the huge fronds was cut during the night.
I dont have the $$$ to get an outdoor camera system. Police say as soon as someone's been caught on video they can do something. I really do not have that kind of money, not at all
My house is for sale for the last 2 years. I am so angry and frustrated. I'm scared enough that I call someone when I leave to be on the phone w me when I go in my garage. They are out of town but know the nonemergency #.What can i do?

see if you can borrow a video camera from a friend and put it so it can video out the window that you see the footprints under - keep doing it nightly until you catch him in the act - then you'll be able to get a restraining order against him. . I saw a good one in one of the Death Wish movies with Charles Bronson - punks were coming in a window in an apt, so he got a board and put a bunch of long nails through it and the next time the punk came in - he got his foot punctured - do something like that outside - put some long pointy metal spike in the ground outside the window. Clean the outside window and sill really good so the cops can dust for fingerprints the next time he comes buy. If you live in the Phila area, contact me and I'll be happy to help figure something out

if u can sneek up to where they are and jump up in front of the window with a camera and take their pic. u have to be real careful and sneaky in order to do it or have someone come to your house that they wouldnt know is there like drive home with them hidden in the car just in case they r watching u come and go then u get in the house and act like u normally would and have them sneek around with the camera and take the pics. good luck...

Depending on how much money you have, you could look into either a webcam or trail camera to capture this person's picture. Presumably you know which windows he/she is frequenting. The trail camera ($50 - $150) snaps photos in the dark. Its activated by motion or heat, you could set it up to look directly out the window. Same with a webcam (as low as $20)...it would take a little more ingenuity to hook that up to record a whole night's worth of activity.

Or do it the old fashioned way...stay overnight at the neighbor's house and film from across the street.

There are several things you can do:

1. You can get a restraining order against the person. You don't have to prove anything to do this.

2. They make cameras for hunters, to take photos of game, so they will know when they cross certain trails, etc.
They go for anywhere from $150 up. Much cheaper than a video security system.
I have one, they work. You can set it to fire a flash, not fire a flash, or take video. They have limitations, but it sounds like just what you need.

Here are a bunch:

Just make sure you mount it in a place that he can't see it, so he can't take it.

3. Get a friend to take photos of him while you're gone, or at night, if you can.

4. This is super creepy and very dangerous sounding.
This guy sounds like a real psycho, and if you're telling yourself you don't think he would hurt you, I think you're lying to yourself. Nobody does this, unless they are seriously disturbed, and planning to DO something. If he were doing it just to freak you out, he would have gotten bored a long time ago.
If I were you, I would buy a gun, and take a gun safety class.
It will give you peace of mind, and you will have the position of power. Get a small one that can fit in your purse.
Just make sure if you do this, you are willing to use it. because you may have to, but that is much better than getting hurt or killed by this maniac.

If you know who it is that is harassing you, then you need to talk to the authorities, and at the very least file a report. What you describe is on the verge of harassment, and possibly stalking.

You should also speak to an attorney (if you know who it is)and provide them with all of the information you have so they can help you protect your legal rights.

If you know who it is, tell them who it is and they can issue a restraining on them forbidding them from comming within a certain distance of your property. If they violate the restraining order they can be arrested.
