No. But Steph just get up out of bed and go to work. The longer you are of the worse you feel and the more apprehensive you feel about going back. Just feel the fear and do it anyway. Besides you need the money for a train fair. |

Probationary periods are just that - you are not yet confirmed as a permanent employee. It is unlikely that they are going to fire you though. You will probably get a written warning. Employers are very well aware that people are rarely 'sick' for just a day and they look upon one day 'sickies' with a jaundiced eye. |

Yes they can fire you - thats what being on probation is about. My mates wife was sacked for 5 days sick during her 3 month probation period, nothing you can do about it. Dont take any more sick days. |

They can do what they want when you are on probation, if you are not taking the piss and do a good job in your work you will be OK. It may be standard procedure if you are off over once,
Having one day of sick twice sounds to me like hangover if you are really sick you don't get over it in a day |

what were the reasons for the sick day ?
Either way it would be very unreasonable. If it had happened repeatedly then perhaps.
Your union or a manager of different department might offer some contex. |

yes they can that's why its called probation they have the option not to continue your employment after your probation period. most companies do this now to weed out the undesirables |

definitely smacks of hangover. I've been to work with some humdingers in my time because I feel guilty and embarrassed about calling in sick. Better to turn up and look like a trouper. |

Whilst your on probation i think your not covered by the same rules as full time, however if you possess a sick note from the doc, i´d be very surprise if they´d sacke you as they would have to offer grounds other than sick for two days. I think its all going to be down to your probation period contract. Luck |

Actually it is perfectly possible to be sick for one day - I had terrible vomiting and diarroea on a Friday (should I have gone in and infected everyone?), all better by Sunday. My son has asthma attacks whicn are cured by emergency nebulisers within a day. What a nasty lot some of you are. |
