UK only...do first aiders at work get paid?

is there any legislation to confirm this? at the moment i am not being paid for this extra responsibility...do my employers have to pay me??

I think it depends on the employer as to whether you do or do not get paid. Some large organisations may well do but smaller companies don`t, well the one I was first aider ta didn`t.

no first aiders dont get extra money for doing first aid on there work colleagues! why would you want to be? especially as you would be helping another colleague!

leece
you do get extra pay but depending on the size of your workforce.. if the workforce is small they (that is) first aiders are not needed. check it out at citizens advice bureau

Not usually. Some employers will give a small extra payment, but it's not enshrined in legislation.

Northern Lad
I didn`t.

They don't have to. Some do, some don't.

Think of it like this. If you're working as a First Aider, you sort of get time off your other responsibilities to do First Aid.

It depend upon your employer. Currently I get my courses paid for and an extra days holiday. In my last job it was an extra days pay . I know that a number of my friends do not get any thing at all

I was a first aider at my Company and you don't get paid extra. My Company paid for my course with St John Ambulance - First Aid at the Work Place. I think it would probably be down to your employer if you get extra pay.

I know they get paid at Tesco for doing the job................

some do, some don't - but any additional responsibilities you take on will add substance to your CV and experience. If you were asked to become a first aider then take it as a compliment - this could also lead to other training opportunities being made available to you

I used to work part time and I was paid an extra £10 per week for being a first aider. My husband's company pay first aiders an extra £20 per week.
