I want to ask door to door donation for cancer research and give it to a cancer research hospital.
And also
Is this like an informal nonprofit organization?

If you are going door to door to solicit and you are not working as a volunteer for a bona fide organization you are not doing yourself any favors.
If, on the other hand, you are a volunteer for the American Cancer Society or a non-profit Cancer research institute they will be happy to furnish you with everything you need to do the job and do it right.
Your heart seems to be in the right place and if you do it correctly you'll do well. Good luck,

Its only legal if you have a PERMIT from the organization (not sure though)
because the people may ask for your id and the organization ID
or they will call the law enforcement for suspicion
ask the leader of your organization, he or she would probably know about that |

Call the cancer research hospital, and tell them you want to help them by going door to door, and see what they say. |

im sure its legal to ask, as long as you are not hurting them or blocking their way in public property. just as it is perfectly legal for them to shut the door in your face. but what is it that you are asking from the people? and i dont think the hospital will take it raw like that from you. |

I would suggest only going to people you know because I'm pretty sure it's legal, I don't know why it wouldn't be, but even if it's not, I don't think anyone will get mad and call the police. I mean, what would they say? "Someone just came to my door and asked me for money for cancer research, I need you to come arrest them right away"? |

WHY is this urgent?
I suggest you wait on this until you find out the legal ramifications FIRST.
