All employees are entitled to be paid Statutory Sick Pay when absent from work.
Statutory Sick Pay is payable for the first 28 weeks of absence in any period of entitlement.
After 28 weeks Incapacity Benefit will usually be payable by the DSS. This payment is made by the employer on behalf of the Government. In order to be eligible an employee must be employed, under the age of 65 and have earnings of at least the lower earning limit. |

You are entitled to SSP if:-
* You are sick for at least 4 or more days in a row (including weekends and bank holidays) AND
* You earn, before tax and National Insurance an average of £90.00 a week.
The standard weekly rate of SSP is £75.40 from 6 April 2008 to 5 April 2009.
SSP is paid for a maximum of 28 weeks. After that ask your employer for form SSP1, which they must fill in and give to you. You will need to contact the Jobcentre Plus Contact Centre who will explain what you need to do with this form and how to claim Incapacity Benefit.
You will need a GP note for an absence over 7 days - before that you can self-certify.
Check your contract of employment to see if you have a right to any increased benefits such as full pay for a number of weeks. |

You will be entitled to some type of sick pay.
When I was off sick I got 2 months full pay (as I had been there 2 YEARS) and the remaining months were on half pay until I returned. |

if you pay national insurance in your job then your sick pay will be paid by your employer if you aren`t earning enough then you have to claim from the DHSS |

You need to read your contract of employment regarding sickness benefits or the company sickness absence policy. As a minimum you will receive ssp (paid up to 26 weeks). Your employer pays you this through your pay and they can recoup the cost of ssp to the Inland Revenue |

Statutory Sick Pay is paid by the benefits office, its about £50 per week, you only get it from your employer is its a multinational type company or government or council owned but the everyday business wont pay sick pay unless its on your contract. |
