Unfair Job Advice??

I am in need of serious advice here please. I am an assistant manager of a store and have many years of experience. The new store manager is giving my jobs to a member of staff who is below me. So much has gone on and I feel pushed out of this position, despite talking to the manager about this on many ocassions and also involving other senior managers from head office. Nothing is changing and I wonder if you can advise on what I can do to help. I am going out of my mind.

There are other jobs out there- sometimes these things happen to push us in a much needed different direction- look for something better- onward and upward!! I only worked on a shop floor but i know how frustrating it is to get managers to take any notice of you- i quit the job- much happier now because i have realised i can do better in a different direction.
GO FOR IT!!

Are you a member of a Union, if so the best way is to contact them for advice, as they would know the ins and outs of how your company works. Also check out the company handbook, see if you can find anything in there.

1.) If you are not a member of a union - join one (USDAW in the UK).
2.) Don't worry about it mate - the person below you is doing work beyond their job description for which you are being paid!

Aside from the fact this certainly falls under Bullying tactics if this person is also demeaning you in front of your co-workers (verbally) and has made your responsibilities the equivalent of a gopher I would seek legal advice from an Employment Lawyer. You may have some type of retaliation (big maybe since you do not explain too much.) Sounds like you may have hostile work environment at best. If you are the minority in management even better. You can scream discrimination.

*ask him for a job description for somebody that holds a asst. manager's position.
* try to get response in writing.
* ask him then why aren't you responsible for these duties.
*If you feel that his response is more personal than work related you do have grounds for victimisation.
*If you do have a union where you work, speak to one of your shop stewards for advice.

Ok, even if you make a complaint, it will be held against you even though they are not suppose to hold it against. Take control and be your own boss. I know how you feel. I was in the same situation and then after 20 years of dedication and being taken advantage of, they laid me and several others off. This is where I went and I have never looked back. It works, I am living proof.

it sounds as if this person is trying to push you out sit your ground and dont let it bother you tufty is right your getting paid for someone else doing your work

G!
I sympathise with you in that this is unfair to be pushing you out the way, and all the other answers do lend good advice, but consider this:

This person below you (Subordinate is the correct word); How often have you delegated your work to them to give them a chance to learn some of your jobs

Maybe if you have failed to realise the potential of thes person, and are ignoring their developement, then maybe that is what the boss is doing.

If it is, then there is little to stop you from taking over the delegating.

Remember, a good manager is not the one who does the job well, they are also the ones who nurture their staff to the best to encourage the best results and enhance staff developement. This is also Investing in your people.
