Unpaid Statutory Holiday?

If an employee has worked for a company less t han 30 days before a statutory holiday...is it allowed that the company does not pay the employee for that holiday? He still gets to take the day off but without pay.
The employee is from Alberta, Canada.

In Alberta in order to be eligible for Holiday Pay, the employee must have worked at least thirty shifts before the holiday, including the scheduled shift immediately before and after the holiday. So in this case, the company does not have to pay the employee for the holiday. |
