Very, VERY creepy coworker. Guys: Should I ignore him on or report him?

I got hired at Sears, along with three men, on the same day. We went through orientation together, and the boss asks us to come at 6 in the morning for a week. So we are in the store alone all morning till it opens at 10.
We've been working in pairs in separate departments, and I've been stuck with "Dan" for two days. He is really wierd, talking nonstop and always working too close. He acts like he is sugarhigh and tells me what to do all the time like he's my boss.
He won't let me take my breaks or lunches by myself, following me everywhere. I don't eat in the mornings, but he refuses to accept that. He brought me food from his home and even tried to buy me food. The other two guys really like him because he likes to joke around, so I find it hard to tell them what's going on. Also I think it would make them uncomfortable because I'm a girl and so far they've treated me like one of the guys (A good thing! Really.)
And what if they fire me because he talks to me too much?

ignore
because it sounds like he likes u but he already nos he can't have u so he's pushing u away subconsciously.

I would start by having an honest talk with him: "Dan, I am uncomfortable with you standing so close. The appropriate amount of personal space is 3 feet. Also, you aren't my manager. I appreciate you trying to help my, but I don't want you to tell me what to do. Please don't bring me food or gifts. This is my job. I respect you as a colleague, but don't want to be 'friends'. This is my job and I take it seriously. Thank you for understanding."

The point: Try open & honest communication first. If that fails, get help. If he gets really out of line, contact HR.

The easiest approach with the best long term results is to just plain let the guy know that all this attention is making you uncomfortable. Be sincere and calm not crabby when you talk to him. If he continues after warning him and you really have a problem with it you can then go to your boss.

As for him bossing you around.... I had a similar incident and I went with the sarcstic approach: I asked her straight out when she received the promotion. She asked what promotion and I told her the one that made her my boss. I did this, the co-worker blushed and never bossed me around again. Now we get along just fine and if she wants me to do something or try it her way she asks instead of demands.

He probably just likes you but is too shy or something so the things he does come out as awkward or creepy. Just tell him how you feel. Telling other people wont get the problem solved, it's always best to go to the source and be forward about things.

Well I think that you should take this matter seriously. If you find him to be creepy then you should trust your instincts and tell someone about the way that you are feeling. The worse thing is when a coworker just hovers to much and you start to feel uncomfortable around that person, but because it doesn't necessarily seem wrong, you don't do anything about the situation. Ive dealt with a couple of coworkers that were creepy in similar ways. Everyone else seemed to like them jsut fine but after awhile I started to just get creeped out by them. I kept my feelings to myself but I tried the avoidance approach to get these people to leave me alone. One of them was like the head of security at a discount store at which I worked. From the moment that I started working there, he tried to ingratiate himself with me and basically talk to me and act flirty with me the way he did with the other female coworkers. I appeased him for awhile but then I had to put a stop to it because I just didn't feel comfortable being around him anymore. He wasn't necessarily doing anything "wrong" but he just seemed to not know the concept of personal boundaries. So I started to give him the cold shoulder until he got the hint and stopped talking to me. He thought that it was a problem that I was having and I just let him think that and proceeded to get through my employment without him bugging me all the time.
The other coworker just creeped me out period. He was just a big brown noser and I hated the way he interacted with customers. Just the way he talked and the way he did things and his personality started to creep me out. I got along with him fine in the beginning and we had a good working relationship but at some point, I wanted him away from me. Once again, everyone else seemed to get along with him but I started to think he was a weirdo because of his ways. Because I couldn't change his behavior, I tried to avoid him but I had to end up quitting that job because he wouldn't leave me alone. He tried to make it seem like I wanted him to do things my way, but I really just wanted him to go away and be his way and leave me alone so I could do my work in peace. So yeah, I definately think that you should tell someone about this coworker. Yeah, as other posters have said, there are weird and annoying people in every workplace but if a weird, annoying, or creepy person seems to be targeting you for some reason, either because they like you or whatever, then it's good to let someone know.

I would talk to the other guys about it...You can't work when you're constantly being pestered. Ask them to talk to "Dan" and maybe get him to calm down a little bit. If that doesn't work, try talking to either "Dan" or management. When it comes to your job, you want to make sure you're efficient and work well with your co-workers. "Dan" is kinda messing with that right now by the sounds of it.

it looks like he`s trying to hit on you so be careful,if he is making you insecure then have a word with the manager about itthey may seperate you from him,as far as talking goes it is he who is doing the talking and if you do your job and not stop to talk then you cannot be fired because of him talking.turn round to dan and tell himto stop acting as though he is the boss because the longer you leave it the worse it will get do not allow him to try and act like he is the boss he is only a worker like you.

good luck

I think you are overreacting.

No one says you have to talk to this guy. If he gets too close, just tell him that he is getting too close.

If he talks too much, there is no company policy against that, therefore, none of your business.

You don't have to go to lunch with him...so I fail to understand why he gets to make this decision for you. Tell him you want to go alone...and that's that.

You will encounter "weird" and difficult people in every job you will have for the rest of your life....time to start learning how to deal with it now.
