What's a "law library"?

Besides the locations mentioned above (law school, court house), many counties have their own stand-alone law library that is not connected to any court or law school.

These law libraries have multiple legal resources for both attorneys and those who don't have attorneys. You can find many resources, forms, and assistance at the law library. If you have a legal question, the law librarian can point you to the proper books that may be able to help you.

Here are links to various County law libraries (in Southern California) - as I don't know what counties there are in other states, I couldn't do a search there:

It's a library devoted to legal research found at law schools and most court houses. In addition to books, there are on-line resources, some of which anyone can access over the internet, but many of which require subscriptions to use.

In addition to being available for law students, lawyers, clerks, and judges, those at court houses usually have staff members whose job is to assist the general public in researching laws, but not in drafting pleadings or telling the public what they need to do - that's legal advice that can only be rendered by licensed attorneys.

It's what's called a Special Library. It concentrates on Law, principally of the US and the state it resides in, but other states as well.

The Law libraries connected with Law schools support the school's curriculum (as all University Libraries do). The reference sources (judicial rulings, statutes, etc,) used in trials are some of the same sources used by students, and some large law firms have their own libraries.

Usually, a law library is found in a courthouse, some reserved for the use of lawyers or paralegals. The public libraries have some legal reference books: usually the smaller ones will at least have the RSA's (Revised Statutes Annotated) for the particular state in which it is located. Larger and more fully funded libraries will have better resources for public use.
