What's it actually like being a lawyer ?
|
I'm currently interested in this career, I know it won't be easy or as glamorous as it is on tv or whatever, but what's it actually like, long hours, is it hard or what, do you enjoy it? I understand the BAR exams and applying to law school. How important is it what law school I go to as long as I pass the BAR exam? As descriptive as possible would help me decide if it is what I want to do. Thank you very much.

its alot of research.....long hours....... i work 50-60 hrs a week...i enjoy it........im a medical malpractice attorney at Jones Day.....it has it benefits......nice bonus.....and 1 month vacation...
the law school u go to is very important....some high paying jobs only recuit kids from certain schools....... me and my friend had similar creditials and both got into harvard....he ended up going....but i decided to go to northwestern instead.....although the name of the school was glamorous lol .....i didnt like the atmosphere when i went to visit...everyone was too competitive and that made learning law...not really fun..........he graduated in the middle of his class, while i graduated in the top 10 percent.....im not boasting, but im trying to point out.....that you should aim for the top, because it opens more doors, but decide ultimately on a place that was confortable to u
also a word of advice is...start saving money now...dont rely on student loans or your parents...law school is over 150 grand....PRETEND that there is no1 to help u......and apply for scholarships and save
DO NOT live like a lawyer when your in LAW SCHOOL.because u will live like a student when you get out...
and remember THERE AINT NO TUITION FOR HAVING NO AMBITION...AND AINT NO LOAN FOR SITTING YOUR *** AT HOME
good luck |

I'm not sure how important what law school you go to is- its not that important tho.
At large firms, you can make ALOT of money, but you basically sell tehm your life, you work awful long hours and burn out quickly, but you get the money.
It also depends on your specialty- if your in court, that takes alot of work. Litigation, presonal injury- can get big settlements, but they work for it.
Other specialties like estate planning and real estate are less glamorous but you can work 9-5 and still make a good living. |
