What am I entitled to after being fired?
Find answers to your legal question.

What am I entitled to after being fired?

I have been at my job over 3 months, and am past probationary period. I told my boss I am moving in a few months and a week later he fired me for no reason. I have had no written warnings. He says he will not give me 2 weeks pay? Am I not entitled to this? I need a website to print off things to show him, I feel like he is trying to take advantage of me. Please Help!

Depending on the state you work in, most are "at will" and an employer can terminate your employment at any time for any reason with no requirement to pay you.

Contact you state unemployment office and the EEOC and determine what your state laws are.

Don't count on anything. You would have had to notify him in writing that you were leaving in two weeks prior to your last day to get paied for two weeks. NOT months before...

The one thing you will get is a lesson here. Never let your plans out of the bag until they're to be put in motion.

I think your S.O.L. buddy. You don't have a leg to stand on. He fired you because it would be a waste of resources to continue training you just to have you leave so he can train another a few months later. It is economics. I didn't know any places still do the two weeks severance. That is a very antiquated practice. Just move on and learn to keep your plans to leave to yourself next time.

Thats a tough one.. he fired you because he wanted you to be a long term employee. telling him your moving in a few months was a bad mistake... good luck.
