a good lawyer is a level headed one. Its not just about arguing, its about getting all the hard evidence and putting those facts across. Anyone can be a good arguer, but not everyone can be a good lawyer. You have to be enthusiastic, some people fail to realise that if you work in the criminal side, you cant choose your clients, sometimes you will be defending someone you think is guilty and visa versa. In the UK everyone has the right to a fair trial, so if you have to be able to detatch yourself and be able to convince a jury that your client in innocent when in fact you may feel they are guilty. You have to have good communication skills, you will be dealing with people who dont know the law, how would you explain what makes a contract to a person who doesnt know? could you simplify it?

you must have an academic qualification. you should be able to argue to the point.

Well you have to be a good public speaker, and not get frustrated easily, because being a lawyer is tiring work. You also have to know when and how to keep calm, because it is easy for a client to piss you off. In addition and most importantly I think you need to be able to have less emotions because no matter what lawyers think of a case, they have to try their best to advocate for the side they were given.

You need to have a firm grasp of the language because so much of the work done in the legal area is written and spoken. More than being able to argue well, you must be able to apply logic to any problem presented. You have to be able to see and understand both sides of the issue(s) so that you can focus your arguement on the real points and not be distracted by the rubbish that the other side will always try to throw in the game! You should also have thick skin, there will be things that are done and said for no reason other than to get to you and knock you off your square, so to speak.

Best of luck to you!!

You have to have a lot of logical reasoning, and you have to be a good public speaker.
And you have to have a tremendous work ethic to be a top lawyer. It's hard, especially right after graduating law school..but if you can win debates and arguments, go for it.
Being a lawyer/attorney is a very respected profession. And a lucrative one too..$.
