What are the legal requirements when advertising a job?

i went for a job that said it was 5 mornings a week. when i went for the interview it changed to 4. when i went for the trial and was offered the job i was told it was now only 1 morning a week as the other 3 had been given to another member of staff wanting extra hours.
friends have said that they shouldnt have been allowed to do this...is this right?

I believe that they can legally continue to change the posting until someone is officially offered the position, but it is a bad practice. Most companies will try to honor what they post as much as possible, but I don't think there is any legal obligation to it until they offer you the job and you accept. They do have to make sure they inform you of any changes, but it sounds like they have. I hear of this happening all the time. If you turn it down they will just keep going down the list of candidates until someone accepts. |

Nothing illegal here unless you had it in a contract and I am certain that didn't happen. Just find another job. They don't sound like a company I would want to work for anyway. Way to inconsistent and flighty for my taste. |

If the job requirements change after the ad has appeared then so be it.
Nothing illegal in that. |

Well I never ! Its no wonder they are looking for staff if that's the way they treat people. Don't think they can count for a start. Sorry, but I don't know the legal side of things though, but try asking the Job Centre Plus, if they are advertising this then it needs to be fixed. |

It does not really matter whether they are allowed to do it or not.
What matters is that they have done it and you have been inconvenienced. How considerate of them!
There are loads of employers out there who do not know how to treat people, or how to run a business. There are others who are better.
Rest your head on that and decide if that is the sort of employer who want to work for, at least you have the knowledge of how incompetent this employer is before you start working for them. |
