What are the responsibilities and tasks involved with being a lawyer?

Who are the premier employers in the industry/field? What degree and concentration are essential?

It depends on what kind of law you practice. I practice family and juvenile law. My job includes meeting with clients, drafting pleadings, conducting discovery (my least favorite part of the job, which requires going through hundreds of boring documents), a little bit of legal research, working out settlement agreements (this is probably 70% of my job) by negotiating with opposing counsel and talking to my own client and/or attending mediation, and of course going to court when settlement negotiations aren't successful.

The only essential degree is a juris doctorate. Any undergraduate degree is fine. You do not have to have a concentration during law school and can specialize in a specific area once you start working.
