What are the rights of an employee who's stupidvisor want them to do a traing session but on the employee time

Come in an hour early, stay an hour late, or come in for an hour on a Saturday and it would be mandatory. I think this is unfair and should be done on their time not mine. I have been in this department for 2years and now they want to train me.

Okay, first of all, if they claim that it's "mandatory", it should most certainly be done "ON THE CLOCK", on their time, and not your own. Secondly, no where in America, can an employer demand that someone perform work "WITHOUT DUE COMPENSATION" ! I do not understand why others who've answered your question haven't bothered to read the entire question. If they claim you are required to do this training, they are required to compensate you for the time spent "training". On the other hand, if this would mean a promotion in both stature and pay, I'd have no problem doing the training on my own time. Either way, the best way to find out exactly what's required of you, would be to contact your local "Labor Board", give them the particulars(information), of where you live, where you work, and ask them what your rights are. Have a great day, hope this was helpful.

Within his rights. Ever hear the song "my way or the highway."
With your attidude towards management, you'll be hearing it real soon.

SInce it is mandatory, they have to pay you for the time, so it now becomes their time. Also, if you work more than 40 hours a week, they must pay you time and a half for the hours over 40. If you don't do the training and its a part of your job, the employer will have the right to terminate you for not meeting job requirements. Is the hour worth losing your job?

On the employee's time, or the employer's? If you are an hourly worker, you must be paid for the time you spend at work, whether you are performing work or being trained to perform it. If you are salaried, you are in essence "on the clock" 24/7 and must work at the convenience of the employer.

If they pay you, they can indeed require mandatory training. For a one-hour period it doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me. Regardless of the training question, if you don't respect your supervisor, which is how it appears from your question, perhaps it's time to consider moving on.

If they need you to train for your job then you have to come in, however as far as training they can't make you come in on Saturdays unless when you were hired you were told you would have to work weekends even if they're asking you to come in to train.

You do get paid your normal wage for the hours you come in to train however, they can't not pay you for that. When you come in to train you clock in the same way.

Also keep in mind that in one week if you work over 40 hours or more (normally training will push you over that limit) it's a law that you must be paid time nad a half for any hours over 40. Make sure that they would do such if you get over that.

If you don't come in to the training ( unless it's on the weekend when they can't force you too) then you could face getting fired. But they can't fire you if the training was on the saturday.

Training is never unpaid, and if it is then it's against the law. I had that happen once at a job and was able to get a large amount of money back for the first week they were training me that they weren't going to pay me for.

Beth,

Quit! That hour is really critical, isn't it? In the past two years has anything changed in your company/field that would precipitate the 'education' hour? If not, get out of there before you learn something!
