What can I do law wise about this?

My cat Gizmo, went in for a spay about 2 years ago. My husband took her back two weeks later to get the stiches removed. Great.

Over the past two years she always sleeps with her belly up in the air, freaks out when anyone touches her belly, and is just very sensitive about the area.

I find out tonight why. I found she still has 2 old stiches still intact in her belly from her spay!!! They are nasty looking, yellow, and you can even see the 'knot'.

I was furious so I called the vet. He laugh and says he doubt he would ever do something like that, and even so, it wouldn't hurt the cat.

Its terrifying to me that he MISSED THEM! How could he miss them?? I remember her stomach was shaved, so you could see them clear as day! So the vet laughed at me, and we ended up arguing.

I am going to take my cat to the vet this week to get pictures. I took some as well. And I will have my vet call him, and then I think I may presue to take some legal action on this. If he would have been a little nicer, and apologized or something, it would be different. But he didn't.

I am just in shock right now. My poor Gizmo.

Does anyone have any advice for me?
Additional Details
My cat has always had stomach issues, and I could not see the stitches because she freaks out if I go anywhere near her belly. I do not know why she did not rip them out..but they are there, and I have pictures.

Thanks for making me feel like a dumb @$$.

this is common in animals and humans that have surgery.
there are numerous stitches that are under the top layer of skin and they either dissolve over time or the body works them out.
there is nothing to sue for and the cat will be fine.

EDIT:
why do so many people think they should sue about anything and everything.....
it is no wonder it takes years to get a valid case through the legal system.

Unfortunately, you can't sue for pain and suffering for a cat. Get the stitches removed and treat the infection - and move on. Sorry.

I agree. I've never heard of stitches staying that long. Usually an animal will gnaw at them and get them out itself. That's why they have to put those funny collars around their heads.

But if you see them, then they're obviously there. They shouldn't hurt the animal however. The vet looked at the cat for a few minutes. You've been looking at it for TWO YEARS for God's sakes and you missed them too.

There's probably some shiester lawyer somewhere who isn't doing very well who will take your case. A reputable lawyer wouldn't touch it. You have to show harm before you can get a settlement. A good defense attorney would say you are neglectful to allow these stitches which are in PLAIN SIGHT to stay in the cat for two years.

So I'd have them removed and forget all the legal aspirations.

Yes, take the cat in and get the stitches out. Perhaps put it on antibiotics for the infection, and move on. Its a cat!

FYI, it is very hard to believe that stiches would not have disoolved or been ripped out by a cat after 2 years.
