What can I do with my JD that doesn't involve actually BEING a lawyer?

I HATE my job.

You can do almost anything! Banking, business, teaching, consulting, etc. Don't stick with a job you hate -- there are too many other good things to do! By the way, have you considered staying with law but in another area entirely? I took a non-traditional legal job and simply loved it, working for State government in the public health agency.

Check www.usajobs.gov and try maybe a regulatory type of agency, like veterans affairs. Maybe you could decide legal claims for benefits. My friend works there. Shewent to law school with me. Apparently there are several former attorneys in her office.

I will take the expression "being a lawyer" as meaning being a member of the bar.

I am not a bar member. But I have distinguished myself in administrative law with cases involving discrimination, labor law, personal injury, workman's compensation, etc.

I charge about a third of what a bar lawyer charges for cases that are not intense and easily investigated. After presenting yourself to an Administrative Law judge you need only perform to prove your credentials. Doing this gives me satisfaction in helping people that can't get a bar lawyer to take their case.

As a proven investigator I feel very satisfied in my work.

You could do what music majors do...work at McDonalds.

Try this book:
"America's Greatest Places to Work with a Law Degree"
by Kimm Alayne Walton JD

You'll have to get it from a USED book dealer, but you shouldn't have any problem.

Maybe you need to reexamine WHY you became a lawyer in the first place.
