What do to about ungrateful employees?

Just don't give a bonus next year..

Guess what my bonus was? My employer laid me off yesterday. That was my bonus.. You could ask them if they want to switch with me. My employer never gave a bonus to begin with, cut wages whenever they could, had health benefits that cost HALF of your monthly earning for just you AND they laid a third of us off the week before Christmas.. I've worked for them loyally for 7 years and haven't missed a day of work in the last year..

Unfortunately, this is way that a lot people are these days. Sometimes, people have other things on their mind or going through issues in their personal life. Christmas about giving, so don't worry about. Be thankful for what tou have!

Give them a card with some motivational words, and do it at a party that you throw for them. Show them the real side of you away from work, show them that you can also be cool. Make friends with your employees by just sitting and listening to them, but at the party ask that questions and concerns about the job stay at the door. This will allow you to see the character and personality in each of your employees. They will also respect you for going out for them, in return you just may see more respect given back toward you.

Here is something that I wrote a long time ago, change anything that you like and word it your own way.

I need a job and would be very grateful for a bonus at Christmas!
Your employees don't know how good they have it to have a job and bonuses!

First of all you have to remember why the bonuses are given and keep that in mind when give it out whether for a good job during the year or for saying happy holiday after all tis the season for giving.

If the bonus is given every year, unfortunately over a period of time employees see it as an entitlement rather than a benefit. That is truly a shame, but it is the way people are. You will hear more griping about how little the bonus was instead of how grateful they are for getting it.

In today's times any employee should be grateful for a job and I am very much pro union.

Well, what should they be grateful for? These days a job is a commercial exchange. They see the bonus as earned and not requiring thanks. You might say that by giving the bonus you are thanking them for their work during the year, or you are giving them additional compensation you think they earned. Neither requires a "thank you."

Also, I wonder how you treat the employees the rest of the year. If you are,say, a law firm that often treat their employees as stupid drones who are unworthy of admission into the hallowed inner sanctum of the Law; then you have to realize that one bonus doesn't erase 364 days of rude behavior. (Applies to most industries)
