Start to cry. Then if you get sent home, go to the dr. get a note that says you need to be off on stress leave. (make sure and tell the dr. that you are crying at work. Then when the boss freaks out that you aren't available to work due to stress they will likely yell again when you take in the note from the

1. Remind them that when they can speak to you like an adult, you will listen. And until that time comes you will be at your desk doing something more productive than being insulted in front of your co workers.

2. Show more tact than you were shown. Do not confront your boss in front of the rest of the employees. In your boss's office/cube/work space let them know that you will not be humiliated in front of the entire office and if there is an issue that needs to be discussed it needs to be done in private and you will file a complaint if it is not handled as such in the future.

3. You could also do what my husband did. Very firmly, he told someone "You are not my wife, you are not my mother. They don't speak to me like that and you won't either." I resign.

When my manager started in on me, i just told her i am not going to listen or talk about this until you and i both calm down. then i turn around and walk away. if they still try and yell at you say to them "I do not deserve to be talk to that way. When you calm down then we can talk."
If this has something to do outside of work or is not related to your job then talk to each other when you are not being paid. you are there to do a job and things outside of work are left at the door.

Ask him to calm down first
tell him you don't find his yelling appropriate or necessary. You both are adults.
If he continues to yell. Advise him to go for a walk. since this is not work related feel free to tell him you are walking away to seperate yourself from the situation.

When he has cooled down. Ask him why he got so upset. Ask him not to yell at you like that again. If he has a problem with YOUR personal life or anything outside of work that's none of his business.

If the yelling is persistant don't hesitate to go to his boss and address the issue. ONe way or another he'll cool is jet and respect you.

walk away tell him you refuse to talk to him until he calms down and speaks to you like an adult
