What does 'have you ever been convicted of a criminal offense...' on a job application form mean?
|
I am applying for a job, and a question on the application sheet reads:
"Have you have you ever been convicted of a criminal offense related to the position applied for and for which you have not been pardoned?"
What does this mean?
Answers are appreciated.

They are asking if you have ever been summoned to Court and been given a criminal record. This also includes driving offences. Some jobs, especially those working with vulnerable sections of society (Children, elderly etc) require you to give a disclosure of any offence, which is then checked with the Criminal Records Bureau. If the record shows that you haven't disclosed all of your offences it could hinder your chances of being employed. However most employers are just wanting to check they aren't hiring some with previous convictions for serious crimes against people. If doesnt sound like they are wanting to do a full check with the CRB, most job application forms have this question on them nowadays.
If you dont have a criminal record then fine, but if you do its best to tell them, it doesn't mean you wont get employed. |

Have you ever been arrested for a crime and convicted of that crime..... |

It means what it says: Have you ever been convicted of a criminal offense? Have you been found guilty of committing a crime? In some cases, it may also include traffic offenses. Depending on where you live, if you have committed a crime as a youth, usually those records are sealed and you do not have to disclose those records. Usually when applying, it's always best to be honest. |

If you have ever been convicted of a criminal offense, which means you were found guilty of a crime, you must disclose it on the application. Disclosure of a criminal offense related to the position you are applying for does not necessarily disqualify you from employment though, but I can guarantee the application would not go into a pile of the qualified if you were convicted of fraud and wanted to work for an armored car company. Really depends on what kind of business you are applying for |

have you been found guilty in court of law of an offence that may relate to the job you wish to apply for so for example if youve been found guilty of theft and you apply to a bank, youve got no chance |

I would be willing to bet the answer is no. If you had been arrested, tried and convicted of a crime it would be something you would remember. |
