What does it mean when employers perform criminal background checks?

does it mean that you have to pass it in order to get employed or does it mean that they just want to know if you have a criminal history?

You have to pass it in order to be employed.

The rage, these days. Even for volunteers. It means little (unless you do have a criminal record!!).

Of course you have to pass it to get hired. Do you think they would hire you if you flunked it? BTW, not only are they looking for any possible criminal history, but they are also checking the level of your honesty in the things you told them on your application and/or in the interview.

HI THERE

THEY JUST WANT TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE A CRIMINAL HISTORY IF YOU DO YOU MIGHT NOT GET THE JOB DEPENDS ON THE CRIMINAL RECORDS SOME PEOPLE JUST GET ARRESTED WITHOUT GOING TO JAIL. THEY CAN AND CAN NOT GET THE JOB I THINK IT ALL DEPENDS IN WHO IS HIRING . SOME ARE UNDERSTANDING OTHERS ARE NOT SOME HAVE A HEART OF A ROCK OTHERS DO NOT.

BE WELLBE SAFE GOD BLESS

You have to pass it to be employed.

it's not a test or anything you have to actually "pass". it's just the employer's way of knowing exactly who they are hiring and if you have a record. some jobs it won't matter as much to the employer while others it can be a very definite concern.

A criminal background check generally is a check by a Private Investigation firm to determine whether you have a criminal record, or current wants, warrants, or other involvement with law enforcement. Some PIs seem to run pretty thorough checks (looking through public records in the areas in which you have resided), while others are kind of weak. If you are hiring onto a federal, state, or law enforcement agency, then your criminal background check will be through the National Criminal Identification Center (NCIC) which is pretty thorough.

Generally it means both.

They have the right to check your police records (if you have one) but you would have had to sign a wiaver to allow this.

Most businesses these days will run police checks.

Basically, they're taking a look at your criminal history. Dependent upon what type of employer you're going for is the type of history they're looking for; ex. a hospital may look for any substance abuse history/arrests. Just be honest on your paperwork and tell any bad news up front-honesty is truly the best policy!
Good luck!!
