What does it mean when your wages are cut for a legitimate business reason?

I have been working for the same company for three years. My boss offered me less hours, cut my salary by 50%, hired someone else for me to train to do the job duties that I have been doing for 3 yrs. This company isn't suffering for money.

With your hours and wages cut so dramatically you may qualify for some underemployment benefit. File a claim at your local unemployment office or at least explain the situation and ask if you qualify for anything.

some countries have laws which permit a wage cut for a legitimate reason. this reason is usually indicated in the law or statute permitting the wage cut. some legitimate reasons are economic downturns, technological developments, etc., my suggestion is for you to verify the legality of the wage cut with your local labor office or with a local union which has members in your profession. these unions have labor experts who can give you options to address your problem.
