You go to your local community college and take a course. You can either get a two year associates degree or just get certified which would take a bit less time. Easy as that. |

The qualifications vary state to state, so it is best to check and see if you have to meet any further qualifications.

I live in California and I know California has further qualifications (to read, follow link: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/waisgate?WAISdocID=51167725043+0+0+0&WAISaction=retrieve )

Just an Assosciates degree in the subject, can be obtained at a junior college.
It's basically a Diet lawyer's degree, without the right to practice law. Just doing grunt work for the licensed lawyers. |

Online school is awesome. Get a career diploma on paralegal studies and NALA (national association of legal assistants) certified. What you're going to learn and what to look for in a school is that You'll learn:
Legal terminology and the U.S. Court System
How to conduct legal investigations and interviews
Legal writing and legal research
Paralegal ethics and professional responsibility.
Don't go for a degree. The time not invested in a higher degree, you can invest in real life experience, which is 100x better!, and employers will put your application on the top for sure!! |

Technically there are no qualifications that you need..Seriously. You don't have to pass a bar like a lawyer does..You just need to know all the right stuff...there is nothing out there that says you have to do anything!! However...it's much easier...to get your associate's degree (2-4 years) to get some experience under your belt. LOL. There are so many things that a paralegal is NOT allowed to do...and this is why. You can actually have your own practice set up in the state of california..but you cannot GIVE legal advice. |
