What does it take to become a paralegal?

What are the qualifications?

You go to your local community college and take a course. You can either get a two year associates degree or just get certified which would take a bit less time. Easy as that.

The qualifications vary state to state, so it is best to check and see if you have to meet any further qualifications.

I live in California and I know California has further qualifications (to read, follow link: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/waisgate?WAISdocID=51167725043+0+0+0&WAISaction=retrieve )

If you want to look into being a Paralegal, consider checking out this website: http://www.paralegals.org/displaycommon.cfm?an=16

It has help with choosing a paralegal program, what a paralegal is and does, compensation reports, etc.

US. Gov. web page, interesting! http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos114.htm#training

Just an Assosciates degree in the subject, can be obtained at a junior college.

It's basically a Diet lawyer's degree, without the right to practice law. Just doing grunt work for the licensed lawyers.

Try google.

Finally 21-Less party,more study
Online school is awesome. Get a career diploma on paralegal studies and NALA (national association of legal assistants) certified. What you're going to learn and what to look for in a school is that You'll learn:
Legal terminology and the U.S. Court System
How to conduct legal investigations and interviews
Legal writing and legal research
Paralegal ethics and professional responsibility.

Don't go for a degree. The time not invested in a higher degree, you can invest in real life experience, which is 100x better!, and employers will put your application on the top for sure!!

Technically there are no qualifications that you need..Seriously. You don't have to pass a bar like a lawyer does..You just need to know all the right stuff...there is nothing out there that says you have to do anything!! However...it's much easier...to get your associate's degree (2-4 years) to get some experience under your belt. LOL. There are so many things that a paralegal is NOT allowed to do...and this is why. You can actually have your own practice set up in the state of california..but you cannot GIVE legal advice.
