it is in relation to doing a background check. i hereby release my former employers and all other persons, corporations, partnerships and associations from any and all claims, demands and liabilties arising out of or in any way related to such investigation or disclosure.
if i am in the middle of a law suit, does that release my right to sue?

This would not be a wise statement to sign. In simple terms it means that the prospective employer wants to obtain information from previous employers which is information that is usually not disclosed in the course of obtaining previous employment verification. Thus, this statement if you sign it and a previous employer divulges information to the prospective employer which prevents you from willfully obtaining employment which would be deemed illegal practices, you waived all rights to place any claims against them. This statement also holds true to financial institutions, creditors, and any other company/individual they wish to contact with respect on gathering information on you to make a decision for employment.
If you are in the middle of a lawsuit which involves a previous employer, consumer related, insurance related, or any other matters similar to these, it may hurt your lawsuit.
