There are probably a lot of different routes to get that profession. I would suggest starting by getting a degree in Sports Management. This degree will allow you to get some experience in law, business, and probably some practical experience in the field. |

The ideal career path would be to major in sports management or some sort of related business field as an undergrad and then pursue law school, preferably at a school with a sports law program.
Not every US law school offers a sports law program, so be sure to choose your school wisely. In theory, you could go to law school anywhere, get your J.D., and hope to latch on to an up and coming athlete, but your best bet to becoming an agent is to be recruited by a sports management agency. This usually requires attending a top-tier sports law program and graduating near the top of your class.
Sports agents are low in demand and high in supply, so unless your buddy is a star D-I athlete, be prepared for some fierce competition out there.
Consider an MBA only if you can get a joint MBA/JD in 4 years or less; otherwise, it's a waste of time. |

From what I understand all of them are attorneys. Some people will go with a friend they know to help them out with money. But I would say go for your Law Degree if you have any interest in negotiating very Legally Binding Contracts. |
