What is the grace period for submitting a letter of resignation?

I was informed that my contract was not to be renewed due to "restructuring purposes". My employer wants me to submit a letter of resignation so they can announce my position on an employment newsletter. It seems like my boss is putting a lot of pressure on me to announce my resignation because I suspect they don't want to pay unemployment benefits. Can they put this pressure on me legally? Is there is period of grace that I am allowed or do I have to offer my letter immediately?
