A jury consultant helps either the prosecution or defense select jurors who are likely to be sympathetic or even biased toward their side. They rely on both detailed statistics and on their gut.

A jury consultant is a person that would pick out jurors that would best suit either the DA in finding the accused guilty, or vice versa if working for the defendant in finding that person innocent. The picks are determined by answers prospective jurors are asked. Their answers are processed, analyzed and then a determination is decided on the ones that would vote in favor of whichever side had a consultant.

Just a layman here, but my understanding is that a jury consultant advises lawyers on the possible leanings of potential jurors to help influence the outcome of a jury trial. They take background checks, psychological profiles and other factors into account to predict how they may vote on a particular subject. In larger trials they may also hire a mock jury that has access to the same information the real jury does to get early possible results so they can make changes to their strategy mid trial depending on what the mock jury's feedback is.
