What is the law on females working alone in a office?

There is absolutely no law against it.
Why should there be?

That said, a lot of companies will discourage it if the office has no security and is open to the street/public.

If you have a problem with it then talk to your line manager.

There is no law on females working alone in an office, but there is a law that states your employer should complete a risk assessment and put controls in place that should protect individuals for health and safety reasons. For an example the employer should be thinking about what could be the worst possible scenario and then placing controls and company procedures in place to protect against it.
There is a Lone worker guidance information sheet that you can download from the HSE website that gives employers ideas and information on types of controls that he/she should be implementing to protect individuals working on their own,

I was the only female in the office of a job I had a couple of years ago.

There is no law in the UK although an employer has a `duty of care` to its staff. Therefore if she is at risk, the employer should look at security implications.

The law is clear in Canada. Males and Females are to be treated equally in the work environment. So the law for females working alone in the office is the same as for the males working alone in the office - NADDA.

phantom
what type of protection are you seeking

the lone worker has to be protected and there must be someone you can call in an emergency and someone in authority must know you are working alone especially after 5 o clock and if you do work affter 5 oclock lock your self in for your own safety

I don't think in Scotland there is a law against it,

but it isn't good practice for obvious health and safety reasons

Also it might invalidate insurance, if there was an incident or accident
