What is the legal amount of annual leave full time office workers are entitled to?

What is the legal amount of annual leave full time office workers are entitled to?

Not including Bank Holiday's. They're only giving us 20 at the moment. I'm sure that's not right. Anybody know?

Thanks :)

If you work in the UK then the minimum is 4 working weeks. So if you work 5 days a week you are entitled to 20 days paid holiday per whole year you work. If you work 2 days per week you are entitled to 8 days etc.

In Canada 2 weeks is the legally required minimum. Some places do give 3 weeks.

In USA you'll need to check the employment laws for your state.

ONLY 20? Are you serious? My last employer only gave 6 holidays and you had to wait a year for 5 days vacation and one whole day of sick leave.... and I was the HR Director and couldn't do a thing about it (*NOTE: Just one of many reasons I no longer work for those yahoos! =))

Are you in the US? There are no US laws that govern or entitle employees to any paid leave in private industry. There are 12 Federal Holidays that government, civil service, and banks grant to employees...

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) is what governs wages (not leave) although many people get these two confused.... the Act can found on the DOL's website at http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/wages/index.htm

It specifically states "The FLSA does not, however, require severance pay, sick leave, vacations, or holidays."

Depends on where you live - time off requirements vary greatly by location. In the US, there is no requirement to provide employees with any time off at all.
