Legally you have to have at least a 15/20 minute break after 6 hours of work. If you work in front of a computer all day it will be a 15 minute break after 4 hours because of the effect computer screens have on your eyes etc. Most employers give 15 minute break after4 hours of work needless of whether you work with computers. But it depends on company policy. I worked a 9 hour day with an hour and a half break.

Health and safety laws state that you must have a break after 6 hours work.

However, your company may offer you a break after 4 hours, if this is in their policy.

You must have a 20 minute break after 6 hours. If you have a kind employer they can give you a break before then.

most companies have policies that cover work hours -- lacking that 6 hours!!!

Do you belong to a union? The union should be able to advise you as this may depend upon the type of work you do.

The government department of labour and industry is also a place that should be able to give you this information.
