My district manager has apparently sent word that I'm going to be written up for not participating in a conference call this morning.
I actually did attempt to participate, but the number I was given did not work. I contacted my manager immediately about the situation this morning but by the time it was worked out, the conference call was over. Besides that though, I have e-mails from the same district manager stating that the conference call was only mandatory for store managers, and that associates (my position) "may want to also be on the phone." But now he is stating that it was mandatory for all employees.
Please also note that we were expected to participate in this work-related event in our own time, at 8am, and that we were not going to be financially compensated for our participation.
Is it legal for my employer to write me up for not participating?

Yes. Are you a salaried or hourly employee? If salaried, there is no "clock." If the number you were given did not work, take that up with him. |
