What is the meaning of the word "pursue", when used for legal purposes?

It is used in its ordinary sense depending on the context, but I think that only lawyers talk about pursuing a course of conduct, i.e. behaving in a particular way. In that context, an alternative would be "follow".
There is also the expression "pursuant to", meaning "as a consequence of", "as the result of".
In Scotland the word means "to bring an action" and the plaintiff or applicant is termed the "pursuer". |
