Since I believe you plan to move to CT at some point in time, you will need to "Have a minimum of 60 college credits; OR two years of full-time active military service with an honorable discharge or continued service in the reserve force." That's straight off our town's police department website.
Have fun! :P |

Having a degree in criminal justice is an obvious one, but honestly it does not take you far, if anything it might get you a few (like 2-3) thousand dollars extra a year as a police officer. Degrees in economics, finance, computer science, biology, chemistry, or maybe even social work are helpful (I have actually been applying for positions with the FBI and DEA, so I know for fact that the economics, finance, and computer science degrees are highly favored). A J.D. is helpful too. Also, you might want to look forward and start working towards a Master's because the B.S. is the new high school diploma. You can actually go to fbi.gov, dea.gov and look around to see what types of educational and job experience is required for certain positions.
I personally have a B.S. in both criminal justice and psychology and have good work experience, but the DEA and FBI don't really favor it. The last time I looked on the website for positions they were interested in finance, economics, and computer science/IT. Once I compllete my Master's in forensic psych, hopefully it'll help me get in one. The foreign language degree is also good, especially if you have a second degree or have maybe two minors in any of the mentioned areas of study by me or any of the other answers. |

Get a BS in Criminal Justice. You should think about if you want to do any forensic work, make sure you get the course that too. Good luck |
