Criminal Justice? Criminology? If I take criminal justice, what job oppurtunities would be open, considering graduating with a good degree?

There is no degree out there that gaurantees a detective position at the police department. Like someone else said, you'll have to work your way from the bottom. Remember that you'll be competing with many other officers for the same position.
I dabbled for a short time in criminal justice classes in college. More out of curiosity than anything else. What I found was that the classes were seriously a joke. I didn't even have to go to the classes and I still had an A average. (of course I did go since I was interested in the topic) That being said, many police officers have criminal justice degrees, so perhaps you should look into something that makes you stand out. Psychology comes to mind. Perhaps a major in psychology with a minor in criminal justice? |

Get a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. You can't just become a detective out of college. You have to work up to it and pass the promotion exams too. |

There would be several options. Both of the fields you named would be good as would accounting, psychology, sociology, IT, probably a host of others. I think most detectives work their way up through the department after completing a law enforcement academy. |
