well there's a whole bunch of tables of different employers with little brochures or whatever of their company, with someone from their human resource department. They usually take applications and do preliminary interviews. If your going to one dress formal and have a few copies of your resume and a few hours just in case you have to do interviews
hope that helps |

A job fair these days are lookin for the "stimulus money" acting like they are gonna hire us. Give us an internet address to put our application in and the recriuters get their commission. You are better off walking with your resume in your hand bacause those agents are making a commision off of just being at the job fair knowing they are not hiring with the economy the way it is! |

job fairs are smoke and mirrors, things are not what they seem.. first of all its a paid day out of the office for the person running the table so who wouldnt want to attend one ...2.. they are a marketing ploy mostly to get you to fill out an application, once you do that your application is put on file so when they claim ( you dont qualify ) they put in the garbage bin and then go to the labor board and say see we had a job fair and no one out there is qualified for our positions and so the labor board gives them 3-4 dudes from india. who they pay 1/2 of the normal salary too or the job gets sent to india directly all it is is a ploy to get the feds to give them cheaper workers , due to the americans being sloppy and unqualified i once saw a job fair where the ad for the job was 10 years java related software at the time i saw this java software had not been out for that long so i questioned them on it and i was told to move away from the table or he was going to call security
so if you interview 100 people who all attended the same job fair that day and ask them how many of you actually were hired by a company there you will find the number is like 5 out of 100 so to me its just a joke and even if i was desperate and needed money and they were giving you 20 bucks to go i still wouldnt go because i know what they are all about and it is a evil agenda |

Basically, a whole bunch of businesses have stalls/booths/tables in a huge area. You go around to the stalls and get information about their business and what positions they are trying to fill. If you're interested, you fill out an application.
For corporation-specific job fairs, like AT&T, you might take a test to see if you qualify, and if you pass, you might get interviewed. |

Once upon a time a job fair was a great place for networking opportunities. Those days are long gone in this economy. On or about a month ago they had a job fair at the Jacob Javits Center in NY. 100's of people showed up only to find it was nothing but a fake.. No one was taking any applications and many of those at the tables wouldn't even give a person two minutes of their time to answer questions. My friends came home absolutely defeated and more depressed than ever. |

Nothing really goes on, they either ask you to buy A apply on line or take your resume and never call you. |

They're about 90 per cent a waste of time. |

people come in who want to hire or tell you about jobs, you go in and look/apply and thats about it...be neat, be clean, be proper...don't act like you know it all. |
