What should I do about my Boss?
Find answers to your legal question.

What should I do about my Boss?

I work as a software analyst for a casino gaming company. When I first started I was the star player on the team. I left on maternity leave and upon my return we were working on a new product. I quickly learned and caught up with everyone else and continue to notice issues, and implement new ideas. Even while I was out my boss was calling and asking me to come back.

Ever since I returned he and I have been bumping heads. I generally put my headphones on and just ignore the situation. Which makes him madder. I reported him to his supervisor about the constant verbal bashing I have encountered and was pretty much told that we need to communicate. Then he coursed me out and flipped me off in front of everyone and still was told that I need to just start off with a new slate. Nothing has been done.

Now I'm getting passed over for new assignments, project idea, basically being made to look incompetent. I am not sure what else to do.

if your boss, verbally abused you in front of witnesses, (swearing, humilation) take it to HR. take this up with HR. You stepped on his toes, now he has it out for you. do your job, keep your mind on your work. Keep your mouth shut with your co-workers too, your boss may have allies amongest them.
I have had this situation happen to me too. Once was employee of the month, now he is out to get me, because i made him look silly. i kept quiet and did my work, and kept my mouth closed. Just ride this out.. and it takes time.

Someone has to be the big person here, and hiding behind a set of headphones is not the way to do it. You need to deal directly with this issue in a constructive, positive way.

Invite the boss for lunch or a coffee. Start the discussion by explaining to him what you did here: "Since I've come back from leave, I feel like you and I haven't been seeing eye to eye." Ask for, and really listen to, his side of the story. The temptation will be to get defensive, but that won't help. You need to get to the root cause of what's going on.

Ask probing questions to understand his point of view. Maybe he's concerned that your new responsibilities will keep you from working the required hours. Maybe he just hates that you pop those headphones in every time he tries to talk with you. If you value your job, try getting his agreement that you are both going to start with a clean slate, and give him your assurance that you'll work on whatever it is that's bugging him. THEN you can bring up some of the issues that bother you, again in a factual, non-judgemental way.

Good luck!
