What should i do about my unemployment/job situation?

Ive been off work for 8 months now unable to find a job equivalent to my prior job. unemployment earns me 300 per week and ill have that for another 6 months or so.

recently i was offered a job earning 13.50 per hour BUT its a 5 month project so it will be a temp job. the work and pay seem decent for my abilities and lifestyle and ill be gaining new skills that could land me a better job in the future. I guess im just worried that if i take this job it might not pan out then ill mess up my unemployment.. and the fact that its only a 5 month (full time) project, i might be wasting my time. im not sure what to do and feel a little lost, what should i do?

I guess depending on your financial situation, if you don't need to take that temp job, then you should focus your energy on finding another full time job that was equivalent to your old one.

On the other hand, even if this is just temporary, you can still put in your resume if it's relating to your profession. So potential employers can see that you are actually doing somthing, rather than sitting at home all day.

Personally I would take this temp job, given the state of the economy right now, and you can still be looking for a full time job while working in this temp job.

Take the Job if your good you could find yourself a permanent job, many times I have seen people who worked for free or just offered their assistance for free or worked part time and when the company found out they were good people they would not let them go and would find a way to make some type of a position for you just to keep from losing a good person. Right now is the time employers will get rid of the dragging weight and pick up new talent go for the job, if your working your in the grapevine to find other jobs others here about.

I was in the same situation and I went for the temporary job thinking it will be alright after the contract or project was over, however when the project was over unemployment was fighting me. It took over 3 months to get my unemployment benefits and then to top it off they stated that I owed them money because they mad e mistake and filed a charge back when I was working the contact job. I would not recommend it.

It sounds like a good opportunity. You feel you would be getting paid fairly and learning new skills. It will look better to future employers that you were doing temp work instead of collecting unemployment.

Although the other respondent it correct, it could mess up unemployment. However, maybe the job market will be better in 5 months or this company offers you a permanent position, so it won't even matter.
