It depends what area of law you are interested in. For example, if you want to go into constitutional law, you should probably become a political science major. If it's corporate and commercial law you are interested in, majoring in business would be prudent. For criminal law, I would advise being a philosophy major. Try to take as many logic courses as possible. Also, take debate classes as well as public speaking. It will come in handy in the future. Just know, the most important aspect of success in law is learning good study habits. When you get to law school, it is quite a shock to your system. Be prepared to study longer and harder than ever before. Regarding where to look for a job...take it one step at a time. Don't get ahead of yourself. Just focus on your studies, and eventually the jobs will come to you.

Take classes that will help you learn to read, research, write and think critically. Take history, sociology, psychology so that you understand the context you are working in. Right now, there is probably a high demand for European Union lawyers.
First year law classes (US) are: torts, contracts, civil procedure, reading/writing/research/advocacy, Constitution, criminal, and property.
Other important classes (for bar exams): criminal procedure, ethics (professional responsibility), evidence, business administration, administrative law, family law, sales and secured transactions (or a similar class). |
