What type of job would be a good start for an American woman with legal secretarial exp. look for there?

I have thought a lot about moving to England, but realize there are cultural differences. Most of my experience is working with lawyers, but I've done other types of jobs such as retail and restaurant work, too. I have some college but do not have a degree.

If you do move, things may actually be easier than you imagine due to the similarities of the legal systems in England/Wales and the US. There are ALWAYS jobs for good legal secretaries, who are worth their weight in gold to any decent legal firm.
And speaking of decent lawyers, I do know of many who actually encourage their secretaries (if they want it) to expand their role and become a paralegal or a Legal Executive.
If you want to give yourself some added reassurance, you could seek a specific legal secretaries qualification. Ilex (link below) can even do this by correspondence before you move and for a very modest fee. The same outfit also provide training for paralegals, too. This can be checked out via the same website - the links are down the left.
And do not worry about the lack of a degree. I do not have one and still found a career as a qualified lawyer. Feel free to contact me if you need extra info.
You will also have to bear in mind that if you wish to make this a permanent move, you will need a work permit. More details can be found via the second link.

Maybe you should look at becoming an NVQ assessor in the secretarial/admin sector. I don't think they have NVQs in America but they are common in England. It won't take you long to get qualifed and once you do it is good money.
