What would happen to someone if he crossed a picket line to gain employment?

First, that person will be called a scab. Then, if caught out alone, that person may be "warned" to stay away from that place - forever. (by warned I mean a good beating)

That would be for crossing a Teamster's line - the person might not have that much trouble at other picket lines.

depends on the state......
in right to work states you do not have to be a union member to be employed in a union shop and the union can not infringe on your rights to seek employment or to work while the union takes a job action.

in a non-right to work state it would depend on the position and if that position was covered by the union that was on strike. even in non-right to work states an employee or potential employee in a position not represented by the union can not be interfered with or prevented in anyway from entering the place of employment.

You might possibly be physically hurt at the time... and in the long run, you would have to work alongside people who were on that line. Could you face colleagues who had been out there, every day, especially if the job you are going for is union-represented as well? Cause if it is, you will be reaping any benefits they gained for all members by striking. An uncomfortable position to face, daily.

On the other hand, if you are applying to become management or non-union, in some places you have the right to cross and union should not interfere. Find out, be courteous and patient, no matter which way it goes.
