When I started my job they fronted 56 hours pay, now I'm quiting & owe them the hrs. But my ....?

starting pay was only 11 an hr , now its over 20.00. Is this legal to do? This is a major corporation. Yes I am putting in my 2 weeks notice at which will be 80 hrs.I wld be fine with this if they equaled it out by dollar amt instead of hours. Can you tell me if this illegal to do?

To my knowledge I signed no paperwork about this situation. The fronted 56 hrs of pay was just added to my first check. I didn't want them to do that but was told that's how they do it.

That depends on the wording of the original agreement. If its based on hours instead of cash they may have got you. I would research the original agreement.

I'd pay them back based on the 11 an hour number. Don't get involved with this type "front money" situation in the future.

Depends on what you signed - if it says you owe them the hours, then yes would be OK - if it says you pay back the money, then it would just be the 56 hours at your original rate.

They cannot require you to pay it back in hours, they have to give you a dollar amount.
