When you quit a job is it necessary for you to hand in a resignation? Why? And if you don't will it look bad

for you? Why would a company hound you to turn in a resignation? Additional Details I gave two weeks notice. I did all the right things. They have the replacement but they want to hold the last check until I give in the resignation. I just found this interesting why they would say this and my friend also asked me why do they need a resignation letter so bad? and I told her I really don't know. Yes, it is an entry position and I do intend to give them the resignation letter but I had wondered why it was such an issue. Thanks for all the answers.

Resignation is termination of contract of employment , which means "act of quitting a position; letter stating that one quits a position; relinquishment". It is a very vital document

No big deal company's could send you a letter or two thats it, the only other difference is if you put your pappers down right the company will give you a reliving order which proves you actually worked for that company for that specfied amount of time. its to use in your next wrk interview.
But its not a huge thing unless the next company your applyin for requires a reliving order.
Good luck |

The main reason would be so that they have something in writing that you terminated the employment. Keep in mind a resignation can be 2 lines, I am leaving employment here as of (insert date here) Any correspondence can be mailed to (insert address here) simple and to the point. They are just keeping their liability for a wrongful termination to a minimum. |

The rules on quitting a job is usually noted on the Employee manual for that particular company. If your unsure, ask a co-worker what steps to take, providing they won't turn you in first. So find someone trusting or get the Manual.
Good Luck |

It's simply more professional. In two or three years, when a prospective employer calls that company back for a reference on you, the response will be handled better. Likely you won't even be remembered, but your resignation letter will be in the file and make it easier for the former employer to provide a decent reference. |

the proper way to quit is to hand in a written resignation giving as much notice as you can in case they need to be looking for your replacement. I work for the state which has many different departments that I may want to work at later so I would definitely want to "quit right" with them. Legally , at least from what I have heard , all a former employer can say when they call for a reference is that you worked there during these dates. places that are connected , like hospitals in the same hmo , may have policies against hiring someone who left without notice from another member of their group. I have always tried to give notice but lately the job market is so competitive that it is not always a good idea to give notice. My son was at a job where he noticed a pattern that when someone gave notice they were either fired or not scheduled to work as many hours so he did not give notice because he needed a full pay check. The last job I gave notice at they were needing to make cut backs and basically tried to fire me early but other people quit so they kept me on the schedule until my last day. |

it is a formality like saying "good bye" while coming back from a party or a friend's house. |

a resignation is formal....most companies do not require it. most government or higher positions might, it is common courtesy to give two weeks notice before you quit or leave. If you resign it does not necessarily look bad...some people resign for medical, or personal reasons |

It is a good idea for you to do it. The company wants it to have a record of their current employee numbers and to prevent complaints from employees for non-payment. Some employees lie and say they were working and try to get paid for hrs. they never worked.
It is a good idea for you to do it if they are hounding you at some point you may need them to not say bad things about you. If they say we asked her to turn in a resignation and she never turned one in that could hurt your chances with a future employer to get a job.
Employers love yes people.
You should do it out of courtesy.
If you resign you can not say you were fired. If you resign unemployment benefits are different. |
