Please help! Im trying to help my bf and father of my son find work here in columbus. He was a "tag a long" in a bad situation a year ago and now is paying for it deeply. He was in the wrong place with the wrong people at the wrong time and because he was there he was considered guilty as well and got hit with a second degree felony. Can anyone help me guide him in a good direction where he can seek work being a convicted felon. Im guessing its going to be mostly factory. Please help!!

i believe as long as he doesnt lie on his resume he sould be able to get a blue collar manual job, as in construction or factory work. but i dont think he'll be able to get a white collar job in an office. How was in the wrong place at the wrong time. it more like he made a bad decision on his part and is not paying for that decsion he made. |

You are pretty mixed up, or stupid. Your boyfriend has eight felonies and you are sticking with him. And he's abusive??? Hasn't he caused you enough trouble? You should move on. Nothing good is going to happen with him.
Do you realize how few people have eight felonies?
What's the matter with you? |

Did you try http://jobsearch.monster.com/Search.aspx?re=130&cy=us&brd=1&JSNONREG=1&q=factory&cnme=columbus&sid=68&rad=20&rad_units=miles ? Make sure he's honest about it because employers nowadays can find out almost anything with background checks.
Good luck! |

*** He can always consider a job with the Forest Service, they hire convicted felons, of all kinds. I'm not sure of his age, but if he's fit, and likes to be active, Fighting Wildfires might be a good career for him. They take prison inmates and train them to fight fire, and as soon as there released from prison, they go straight into the field. The pay, for even someone just starting out is amazing! He will easily be able to make enough for the entire year in a matter of 3-4 months. It is a great job. It keeps you fit, while learning an amazing skill. The retirement is great, and the benefits you couldn't expect better.
If the firefighting thing isn't his cup of tea, he can go into all different area's working for the U.S.D.A. If he can imagine it, they have it available. If he is interested there are a lot of Forestry/Parks/Recreation classes that he can take at the local community college, to obtain different "Certificates", within the Forestry field. These certificates, only take a few months to obtain, and can increase your pay quite a bit, and or easily get you a job, within the Forestry dept. There is a big demand for a lot of these fields, and the pay is good, and the competition for the jobs, is almost non-existent.
He needs to go on line and check out the Government Jobs sites. I think it is Govjobs.org...or something close to that. He can fill out an App. on line, and even without any schooling, or experience, could start out as a G.S.3 (Gov. Scale). The pay I believe differs from area to area, but it starts around about $10.00-$11.00 an hour.***
~ I wish you both, all the luck in the world ~ |

Labeled a felony is most likely the worst title to have. Yes, there are places where felons can go to get work. He might want to try a employment agency that is either ran by the city or the state. These agencies try to help felons find jobs, because they know that 99% of the time, they might get turned down by staffing agencies ran by corporations. Just to let you know, jobs are not that easy to get these days, so he may not have the position to pick and choose, know what I mean. Once he gets a job, he has to stay out of trouble, finish his probation, and pay any restitution owed, and then maybe 3-5 years it could get dropped to a msdemeanor. |
