Which profession, doctor or a lawyer?
Find answers to your legal question.

Which profession, doctor or a lawyer?

Here's my history:
I get all A's in all my honors/AP classes, but for math and science, I have to study my head off. However, for history/public speaking, I have always excelled in it. Yet, I think I can handle the education for either of them (I know there are other jobs out there as well, but these two are the ones I feel most passionate in devoting myself into)
Which one do you think? Become a lawyer through my strength card, or strive to become a doctor through much hardwork?
(I REALLY enjoy helping people as well)

PS Please refrain from answers such as "Follow your heart" or anything like that.
Im deeply serious about this issue and would LOVE to hear any advise with it.
THANKS

the lawyer bit never really interested me. I couldn't possibly defend someone who i knew was guilty. you have to lie.

a doctor would be more respected, whereas lawyers get a negative image for being crooks, sharks etc.

it's more work to be a doctor, but think about this way- if you ever want to move to another country, it would benefit you. being a lawyer in the US would only be valid and good for the US because you learned the laws for this country...

you may have to retest for being a doctor in another country, but US diplomas are recognized a lot more.

Warning: Jobs in the field of Law are drying up FAST!!! This is not a good field to invest in!!! Many reasons - main reason: We simply have WAY TOO MANY attorneys!!! (Not to be mean, but go take a look at your local phone book. Turn to "A" for Attorney.) Even IF you finish law school, you probably won't be able to find a job (and you'll be up to your neck in debt). There are many lawyers today working as Paralegals, Legal Assistants, Legal Secretaries, Court Reporters, etc. simply because there are no jobs.

BUT...the law schools won't tell you this - law students are easy money for them.

Suggestion: Go with the field of Healthcare!!! LOTS of jobs there! and scholarships!

Good luck.

This is a decision which you have to make yourself. Doctors are always in demand. Unfortunately, too many are controlled by insurance companies as to their earnings . Socialized medicine will require many more . As for the Law, just see how many schools are graduating how many prospective lawyers on top of what we already have. Where is all their work coming from ?

Lawyers help people too. It's good to push yourself in your weak areas too. How about volunteering at a hospital or shadowing a lawyer and see what jumps at you?

talk to an older lawyer and an older doctor and get their advice and a feel of their professions. if you don't know any see your local priest or pastor or guidance counsellor and ask for a referral. i know you will be accommodated if you tell them the reason for your request. or go to your local rotary club. the president of the club will be able to refer to to a lawyer or a doctor. if you still have time do volunteer work in a local hospital or clinic or a legal aid center.
on the personal side my father is a lawyer and my mother a doctor; both professions, lived in accordance to the oaths of each profession, will make you a credit to your society.

I would say lawyer...because it is a shorter timeframe of work (4 yrs of college...3 yrs law school) than doctor (4 yrs college 4 yrs medical 3 yrs residency)....my cousin is a doctor and he is constantly tired because of the times they call him into work. I also think a doctor might make it harder to enjoy yourself at a younger age. Im in college right now, and I want to be a lawyer and I had this same dilemma...I just went to internship at a hospital and a law office, and found that law is more exciting for me.......

also law isnt just public speaking....u have to be able to right well, and know how to analyze long passages
