I have a program manager that treats her employees like crap and is always contradicting herself. Well I got fed up and started looking for new jobs which required a thorough background check. A few months ago, a reference letter came for my coworker from the agency that I applied with and she opened it and had a fit. She had a conference with me about it and made it a big deal that I didn't tell her. (Forgot to say that a coworker was just recently fired during this time for speaking up against her management style) She was furious and told me to be more open about it. I didn't feel comfortable because she tends to treat people differently when she know that they are searching for other jobs. I told her that I will give more than enough notice, but I feel that she is trying to find any excuse to fire me at this point. Well my question is "Can I put my coworker/supervisor as my boss for an application? (He has a higher position than me and my boss always tells us that he is my supervisor) Help me please! I might lose my job soon. Thanks

Yes, and it is recommended. In California, it would be illegal for your supervisor to give a negative reference without cause. If there is an HR
department, it would be best to take her poor handling of the former employee reference to them. The HR gurus will get her quickly in line as she is exposing the company to major financial fines for doing this.
But, to your point, yes. You can also put a co-worker who can vouch for you. |
