Who can give me some advice on abuse at work?
|
I am a foreigner. I have not much work experience before. I found this job and started for just above half year. I am the lowest level in my work place. Those colleagues who is above my level or just a bit of senior than me always ask me to do things like photocopying and finding some files for them. I feel not very comfortable with this as my job description has no such kind of requirment. But i am hesitate to refuse them because they can help me to solve the technical questions. It seems only me being asked to do this kind of admin duties. Should I just keep quiet and being demanded to do things, waiting for their more and more requests, or should I tell them "No" .
I feel this work place is very complicated and unfriendly. I am nice or maybe over-nicely to my colleague. But I don't get a smile back. as the job itself is what i like to do. I don't want to give it up. Really Lost. and feeling bad... Additional Details Gail, I said I am a foreigner because I am totally have no idea about starting a job in England supposed to be like. I am feeling a bit of depressed that no one can tell me that if they treat me right or not as I do not have a friend or family here.

Unfortunately everyone starts at the bottom when starting a new job and in an office this usually means photocopying filing and doing the rotten jobs, but it is normal and seen to be a good way of gaining experience. you are probably giving off vibes to the other staff that you are unhappy at being given these tasks and that is why you may find them unfriendly. You state you don't have much work experience and no employer is going to trust you with a responsible role until you have gained a bit of experience br if you feel you are doing a different job from the one you were employed to do then you must ask him to clarify what your job is and state you are unhappy.
The first statement you make in your question is that you are a foreigener please what has that got to do with your question ???????
Are you expecting to be treated differently ? sounds to me like you maybe and that could be your problem. |

Unfortunatley as you are a newcomer to the job, you are basically on probation for a year, this means they can terminate your contract with them. I would try to perhaps continue what your doing for them or if you feel confident enough speak to the manager and ask again what your job description is. In an office environment everyone usually works together but they do tend to use the last person in to be their slaves. Try and be friendly with them and the next person to come along will get what your doing and you will be able to concentrate on the job you were allocated.
Good luck. |
