Why does my boss do this? Is it even legal?

Why does he follow my coworker? He drives by her house at lunch to see if she's there. She left early for a eye doctor appointment and before she left he asked where the office was, then drove by there while she was getting her eyes checked. She went home for lunch one day and after lunch he made comments that showed he knew she ate at home that day. She hadn't told anyone where she was going for lunch. Why does he do stuff like this? Isn't this stalking?

It's absolutely stalking and she needs to start documenting times, dates and details.

Do you have a sense that he's infatuated? or is he trying to catch her in a lie?

Either way, she needs to confront him about it. It doesn't have to be nasty, just let him know that she's watching him while he's watching her.

If this is an unpaid lunch, it's none of his business where she goes. As long as she's back at work on time, he's got no gripes with her about this.

Yea, definitely. She should file a police report, and if necessary quit and file a restraining order. He may be planning something, and I fear for her safety. I've heard of bosses driving by employees houses (even though that is also wrong), but if he is seriously following her and stalking her. She needs to get some help, because this is a potentially dangerous situation. No, it isn't legal.

The Godfather
It really does sound like stalking. However, I would not say anything about it to anybody, My Friend. Just to be safe.

My former boss was like this, a 60 year old female. I have witnessed her making calls, and checking up on my absent co-workers and keeping watch anyway she could, because she did not trust us. The store I worked for was Sally's Beauty supply and they treat their employees really poorly, exploitation, the low pay pay thing, turnover is very high, they expect workers to be superman or wonder woman and we are just human, employees burn out, and start taking "mental health" days, just to deal with the stress of working under very poor conditions, so the management is aware that sometimes workers are not really sick, technically, but are sick of them. That's what I think, in a way it is a type of stalking, but not in the same way as what we may see on TV as the classic wacko stalker.

Can you say HARASSMENT!

This is absolutely not legal. I would talk to the HR Manager about this instances and document everything.
